SCORE is an assessment tool that rates sustainability practices. It helps organizations understand where they are now and what 'sustainable' looks like.  Ken Hiatt with Peraska is a licensed SCORE Assessor and uses SCORE with clients to realize where a company is on the sustainability continuum, and focus on the following:

Sustainability allows us to maintain an equilibrium—a balance—in nature , in life, and in business practices.  It allows us to apply the best sustainable business practices to avoid waste and pollution and to do it in the most economical way.  Greater cost savings, more market opportunity and enhancing  bottom-line company health: These will benefit   the total environment -- the local community, the state , the nation, and the world at large.

SCORE includes nearly 100 practices and is organized by functions that most organizations have, making it easy to assign responsibility. It helps departments understand what they need to do. For each practice, Score provides three levels of benchmarks so you can see where you are now and where you need to go long-term. There are targeted assessments for   capturing special opportunities for each entity: government, manufacturing, businesses and services.

Score can supplement emerging sustainability rating systems and award programs. We can benchmark your performance against all who are in the database, those in your sector (manufacturing, government, business, services) or sustainability leaders.

The SCORE Process

• SCORE is typically done in 4 meetings. We can do some of these meetings via virtual conferencing if needed.
• SCORE Progress -This option is for repeat SCORE customers, a do-it-yourself version or we can conduct the re-assessment.  Then we compare your results to the last time you took SCORE.
• pre-SCORE—pre-SCORE is for customers who are so new to sustainability that they want to use SCORE to understand what sustainability means and build a plan for when to address the practices instead of rating themselves on the assessment.
• SCORE as part of a larger sustainability assessment. SCORE assesses the degree to which you've incorporated sustainability into your business practices. However there may be other elements you want to assess (e.g., greenhouse gases, energy, waste, etc.) SCORE can be one part of a much larger sustainability assessment/Sustainable Management System (SMS).
